2010 Battle of the Bands Application and Rules



1. All entry packets must be received by April 1, 2010. Only 20 groups will be selected by a group of judges to play on April 30th, May 1st, and May 2nd 2010 as part of the live competition. The selected groups will be notified by telephone or email.

2. Incomplete entries will be disqualified. Bands must submit the application form and demo to Rebecca at the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum at 71 Asylum Drive, Weston, WV 26452 by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2010. Photos, bios, etc. are welcomed but not necessary. Materials will not be returned. Video of a performance is highly encouraged, but not required, and may substitute for audio file.

3. Each band that competes at the Battle of the Bands on April 30th, May 1st, and May 2nd 2010 must play for at least 35 minutes to a maximums of 40 minutes to allow the 10 minutes of teardown and 10 minutes of setup

4. A stage crew will be on hand to assist each band in setting up and sound check. It is the band's responsibility to set gear and be ready to perform within the allotted time.

5. Stage management has final say on all activities on stage. Any band going over the 40 minute limit, or disregarding event management's direction about anything, including safety and time, may be disqualified or powered off.

6. 5 judges will determine 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for Battle of the Bands.

7. If your group is chosen to compete in the Battle of the Bands, you must be available to perform anytime from the start of Moonstruck on April 30th to the end of the event on May 2nd. Time requests will not be considered, no time slots are guaranteed, and if you enter, you need to be available at any time.

8. All bands are required to send one member to a pre-meeting before the event on April 16th at 6:00 pm.

9. Associates of Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum are ineligible to enter.

10. Battle of the Bands is open to amateurs only. For the purpose of this contest, an amateur is somebody without a major-label recording contract who makes less than half their annual income by performing.

11. Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum is not responsible for any damage or theft during the Battle of the Bands. ONLY Band members are responsible for the security of their equipment and the event organizers cannot be held liable for any lost, damaged, or stolen equipment.

12. The entire performance must be live – no prerecorded music is allowed. To be considered bands must perform at least 2 original songs.

13. Criteria to be considered include: Stage presentation, Sound Volume & Clarity, Band Synchronization, Time Management, Song Quality & Originality, Stage Management, Band Enthusiasm & Attitude, and Audience Response. Judges will award points in each category using a point system. If bands end up in a tie, the following individual category scores will decide the winner (in order): Stage Presentation, Song Quality & Originality, and Audience Response.

14. All bands agree to have their name, voice, and/or likenesses used in any advertising or broadcasting material relating to this contest without any compensation or rights to royalties for such use.

15. A P.A. system will be provided for the contest. Band members must provide all other musical instruments and equipment necessary for their performance.

16. All bands selected to play in the Battle of the Bands will be notified by phone and are required to pay a $75 registration fee, NO LATER THAN April 16th, 2010. Any bands that fail to submit their registration fees will not be allowed to take part in the Battle of the Bands.
